Know your limits

Responsible gaming

If you do visit a casino floor, keep it small and keep it fun.

Where we stand

This is a hotel guide, and we do not encourage anyone to gamble. Every property on the list is worth the trip without a single visit to its casino. Should you choose to play anyway, the points below keep things in check.

Practical guardrails

  • Check the minimum gambling age for the country you are in, since it is not the same everywhere, and carry ID because staff will check.
  • Bring only cash you are ready to part with, and keep cards locked away upstairs.
  • Set a finishing time in advance and take a break every so often.
  • Accept a loss as gone rather than chasing it, and keep borrowed money out of it entirely.
  • Leave the tables alone when you are exhausted, angry or a few drinks in.

Signs worth noticing

Be alert if spending keeps creeping past your limit, if you hide play from family or friends, or if you feel tense and short-tempered on days without it. Most casinos let guests exclude themselves voluntarily; the reception or guest-services desk can explain how.
